Judging the DX National Student Design Competition

Once again, Arc & Co. was invited to be part of the judging panel for the 18th Toronto Design Exchange’s High School Student Design Competition sponsored by Sears Canada. We were amazed by the vast talent from all over Canada after reviewing thousands of submissions. It was merely impossible to select the top three, some were very original and some were quite skilled in the technical side of things. We hope to see these students blossom in the path they choose, and meet them in person at the award ceremony. Join us in June 7th evening at the DX to celebrate the success of these young creative thinkers!

We are at the Interior Design Show Toronto

We were very excited to be part of the most prestigious design show in Canada. The booth we designed for Designboom Mart represented the RAW talent of these emerging designers. The design needed to be eye catching and unique, yet at the same time–not overtake the products of the pop up market. It was a pleasure to work with the team of Interior Design Show 2013 show management and Designboom. 1 booth (2600 wood sticks with 4500 screws), 200 posters, 3000 Designboom Mart stickers all designed and built by us (phew!). Mission accomplished!

Arc & Co. has been invited to design the Designboom Mart in the IDS 2013 (Interior Design Show, Toronto), as one of the featured 5 design exhibitions. We were very flattered by the invitation and we have said yes to the opportunity to showcase our talent in front of all our colleagues in the design industry and the public.

We just visited our new studio this morning and got a picture to show everyone! Looking great isn’t it? The floor had carpet before and we insisted of taking it out, guess what we found? Original hardwood floor bingo!

We had a great time over the past year in New York Times’ favourite area in Toronto- Sterling Road. Arc & Co. made so many friends and shared ideas with these great designers, artists, architects, photographers and musicians. They will always be our inspirations, and of course- the smell of chocolate because of our big neighbour The Nestlé Factory. Now we are moving to the East-End! Totally excited for the new office and we will share pictures of the renovations with you all. Wish us luck! xoxo

It feels like it has only been yesterday since we have opened up our design studio, and today we turn one! With all the love and support from our colleagues, friends, family, and of course our beloved clients… we would like to take the time to talk you all!

Design Insider: The Pathfinder Tool

Ever since we have opened up our studio, we have encountered numerous design production assets “no-no’s” from our clients. Out of all these sinful acts of design, one really stands out that we can’t even barely contain ourselves from cringing when we see it – (drum roll please) not pathfinding vector drawings!

Of course, this is not the fault of any of our clients and it should very well not be. The Pathfinder Tools is as much as a jargon as blepharoplasty to a graphic designer, however it is our duty as designers to provide flawless production-ready files to our clients.

That being said, we are urging all our fellow designers to take some time and learn the wonderful world of Pathfinding! It definitely opened up our eyes when we first learned it way back in design school, and we are sure your clients will thank you as well. As we say around here in our studio “your design is only as good as how useful it is” and we sure know that Pathfinder Tools makes your vector-logo design that much useful!

Global Pottery Concept Catalog

We are currently working on the Concept Catalog Design for Global Pottery. The whole project involved Art Direction, Photography Styling and Loose Spread Editorial Design. Both the client and us were very happy with the results. There were many initial thoughts for the creative direction. For example, the very popular “Rustic Modern”, “French Country” and “Tuscan Chic” themes that all bloggers are talking about these days. After much research and development, the theme “Shabby Chic” won everyone’s heart. The all-white, soft, opulent, yet cottage-style decor, often with a feminine feel will definitely differentiate Global Pottery with others in the industry.

Design Exchange Judgement Day

Arc & Co. was invited by the Design Exchange (the DX) in Toronto to be part of the Graphic Design Judging Panel for the 17th Annual Sears Canadian High School Design Competition. We were amazed by the vast young talent from all over Canada after reviewing thousands of submissions. It was very tough to pick the top three in both Junior and Senior level, hence we gave out many Honorable Mention Awards.

At the DX Award Ceremony we were able to see all the winners to congratulate them. Also we had the opportunity to see the winners in other categories: Architecture, Industrial Design and Fashion Design. All the judges were deeply impressed by these young designers and we hope to see them shine in the field and their chosen path of design learning. Way too go!

Design Featured: Diamond Bottle Opener

During our time at Wild Eye Designs, we created a line of kitchen gadgets and barware targeting females who desire a fun, trendy and a unique experience in their home called Wink.

One of the products we designed was the famous Diamond Ring Bottle Opener, and as we were flipping through Glamour Magazine (and yes, we read magazines that our intended target audiences read) we came across our design! Featured on their “Gift Guide for the Holidays” issue, it always feels good to know that we have designed something that truly speaks to the market!

Hooray and another successful product design!
